Gov. immigration policies

-4 types of immigration policies
1. maintain a current level of immigration
2. increase the level
3. decrease the level
4. no policy what so ever

unauthorized immigration
- unauthorized - term preferred by academic researchers
- undocumented - term used by some of the groups that advocate for more rights
- illegal alien - term preferred by some groups that favor a tougher immigration restriction

more than 1/2 of unauthorized immigrants emigrate from mexico.
1 million unauthorized children out of 11.3 million total.
duration of unauthorized immigrants in america is increasing.
8 million of total immigrants are employed.

quotas - maximum limit of the number of people who can emigrate to the U.S. on 1 period of time.

chain migration - migration of people to a specific location because of relatives and/or members of the same nationality previously migrated there.

mexico-US border

- border prevents illegal immigrants passing between mexico and US.
- it is heavily guarded but some people risk there lives to pass illegally for a better life in America.

Europe immigration crisis
- of the 16 countries with the highest per capita income, 14 of the countries are located in europe
- european countries have about 40 million foreign born residents and about half of that all immigrated into europe.
